We're pleased to announce that our new online trade Web Shop is now live! You can access the Web Shop either by clicking the link at the top of this page, or directly at https://shop.peak-uk.com. As part of the first wave of development, we have uploaded products from our SanDisk and Hama ranges. We will continue to add new features and products over the coming weeks and months as part of a development plan for the Web shop.

The Hama brand is coming to Peak!

The team at Peak are extremely pleased to announce a new agreement to distribute the much-loved Hama brand in the UK. Hama are a leading accessory brand, specialising in multiple areas including Photo, Digital, Audiovisual, Multimedia, Mobile Phones and Optics. At Peak we believe the high quality and broad range of Hama’s portfolio is a great fit for our existing customer base. We also believe that we have a great deal to offer new customers’ who may have purchased Hama products in the past and are just for the first time discovering who we are, and what we do at Peak.

We’ll be launching with Hama products during the first week of September shortly followed by our new webshop. Our goal is to bring you the best of Hama plus the best of Peak. Government confirms new e-scooter legislation is coming

In the Queen’s Speech on Tuesday (10th May) the government set out plans for a new Transport Bill. Whilst no specific mention of e-scooter legislation was made, a government spokesperson has since told the BBC that new laws on privately owned e-scooters are coming. “While riding a privately owned e-scooter on public land is currently illegal, we are considering how best to design future regulations and our Transport Bill will help us to take the steps we need to make e-scooters safer and support innovation.”

Contamination incident affects NAND factories

A contamination incident has forced production to cease at two NAND factories owned by Western Digital and Kioxia (formerly Toshiba). The incident at the factories located in the Japanese cities of Kiakami and Tokkaichi has reportedly affected 6.5 exabytes (6,979,321,856 gigabytes) of Western Digital’s flash memory product. Work is underway to restore normal operation at the factories, with Western Digital saying it's “working closely with its joint venture partner, Kioxia, to implement necessary measures that will restore the facilities to normal operational status as quickly as possible.”

Historically even small interuptions in the production of NAND has had a negative affect on both pricing and supply of Flash Memory Products such as Memory Cards, SSD and USB Drives, as well as the many products that utilise the technology at a component level. We'll do our utmost to keep you updated as the situation in Japan unfolds.

COVID-19 Latest

Our sales teams and office staff are continuing to work from home wherever possible. When you make a call into the office, our switchboard is automatically diverting your call to staff working remotely. Our warehouse is fully operational and our warehouse team is doing a fantastic job of picking, packing and dispatching your orders with little or no disruption to service. Announcing SanDisk Max Endurance

SanDisk have announced a replacement for the current Endurance range of microSD cards designed for security cameras and dash cams. SanDisk Max Endurance microSD cards have been engineered to record and re-record up to 120,000 hours of footage. The u3 / V30 card will be available in capacities from 32GB to 256GB and will continue to come with microSD adapter. The partnumber will be SDSQQVR-xxxG-GN6IA, where xxx represents the capacity in GB.

SanDisk announces 8TB Portable SSD

It’s January and time once again for the world’s Consumer Electronics industry to converge in Las Vegas for the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). At the show, SanDisk has demonstrated two new products, one an 8TB Portable SSD prototype in not ready for market yet, but the other a 1TB Ultra Dual USB Drive will be available later this winter.

Whilst there are 4TB Portable SSDs available, 2TB is arguably where the market currently is at. SanDisk says the new 8GB SSD is currently the world’s highest capacity pocket-sized SSD with a 20Gbps transfer rate. With 4TB still a relatively expensive option, it may take some time for the market to be ready for this new 8TB SSD.

The 1T SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Drive will be available later this year. With its dual connector design, it will be compatible with both standard USB-A and USB-C devices. We’ll update you when more information become available.

SanDisk announce Extreme Pro CFexpress type B

SanDisk have announced a new memory card option that utilises the same form factor as Sony’s current XQD card format. The new SanDisk Extreme Pro CFexpress Card type B surpasses the performance of Sony’s card, with read speeds of up to 1700MB/s and write speeds of up to 1400MB/s. The card has been designed to enable smooth, RAW 4K video capture with sustainable performance.

A range of cameras from Nikon, Sony, Panasonic and Phase One currently support the XQD card format, and these models are expected to be made compatible with the new CFexpress card format with a simple firmware update. Nikon has already announced firmware updates for its Z6, Z7, D850, D500 and D5 that will make the cameras compatible with CFexpress. The new Canon EOS C500 Mark II will use twin CFexpress card slots when it releases later this year, and there is speculation that the new Nikon D6 will utilise twin CFexpress slots too.

64GB, 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities have been announced along with a CFexpress card reader that is designed to support USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds and comes with a USB-C connector. We are currently expecting the cards to be available w/c 23rd September 2019.

SanDisk Announces 4TB USB Flash Drive

CES 2019. Western Digital’s SanDisk brand has announced a prototype for a 4TB USB Flash Drive. Equipped with a USB-C connector, the announcement follows last years' reveal of a 1TB USB Flash Drive – a product that still hasn’t reached market. As the cost of producing such a drive would be currently prohibitively expensive, It’s very much still a proof of concept.

SanDisk has also announced a new Portable SSD. The SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD offers transfer speeds of 1GB/s and features IP55 durability. We’re expecting availability in spring, with 500GB, 1T and 2TB versions expected. Also announced is a cloud backup service called Flashback. Flashback will be available for SanDisk Ultra and SanDisk Ultra Fit USB Flash Drives and will offer a cloud back up operation that creates an online copy of the Flash Drives content.

Sony extends its Extra Bass range

The world’s largest consumer electronics show is under way in Las Vegas. With over 180K attendees and 4.4K exhibiting companies, CES 2019 has been the proving ground for new technologies for the last 50 years. The show runs from the 8th to the 11th January and many of our key brands are expected to announce new products.

Sony have announced updates to their Extra Bass Portable speaker range. The SRS-XB12 will replace the existing XB10, while the new SRS-XB22 and SRS- XB32 will feature integrated party lights. All three speakers feature IP67 durability, making them water and shock resistance. The much larger GTK- XB72 also comes with big bass and a light show. The GTK-PG10 seems to target the popular US tailgate-party scene so it’s perhaps less clear whether it will find its way to the UK. It features a water-resistant table top complete with cup holders and a mic input for karaoke.

SanDisk break the UHS-I barrier

SanDisk have announced their SanDisk Extreme®, SanDisk Extreme PLUS, and SanDisk Extreme PRO® microSD and SD UHS-I cards are getting faster. The SD Association UHS-I spec defines the speed at which cards will operate. In practice, this means that SD and microSD cards meeting the UHS-I spec are limited to speeds up to 104MB/s. SanDisk has managed to break the 104MB/s speed barrier and still meet the UHS-I spec. The new cards will be able to operate up to almost 60% faster than the defined bus speed. Plus, the Application Speed Class 2 (A2) feature is being added to most cards in the microSD range, so more demanding apps can be stored and opened directly from the card.

SD Express - A revolutionary Innovation for SD Memory Cards

The SD Card Association has today announced SD Express - a new iteration of the existing SD Card that will see potential maximum capacity leap to 128TB, and potential maxium performance increase to transfer rates of 985 megabytes per second (MB/s).

The good news is that the standard is backwardly compatible - you will be able to use an SD Express card in older devices at UHS-I speeds. However, if you try to use a UHS-II or UHS-III SD card on an SD Express compatible device, it will cap your speed to UHS-I specs due to the revised pin layout. The cards will be distinguished with the new “EX I” marking with the first cards to use the new technology expected to be SDUC, SDXC and SDHC cards. We'll update you with more information on this exciting development as more information becomes available.

Headphones that help you run better?

Soul Electronics announced two new headphones at CES 2018. The Blade and the Run Free Pro Bio - which are both powered by the Beflex Biomech Engine. This can monitor how you run and provide "real-time coaching to maximize running performance and minimize potential injury". While you are running, the headphones’ sensors track a host of different parameters integral to good form and preventing injury: cadence (steps per minute), step length, step width, vertical oscillation (the up and down bounce of your body), head tilt angle, stance / flight time, shock, maximum leg force, balance, and consistency. If any of these fall outside an optimal range, the app’s digital trainer will tell you in the headphones what to adjust in order to correct your form. Ideally, this should help people who have to be mindful of existing injuries and really, prevent injuries from happening to begin with.

Toshiba and Western Digital settle dispute

Toshiba and Western Digital have reached agreement over a legal dispute that had threatened to derail Toshiba’s $18 billion sale of its flash memory business – and could potentially have cut Western Digital off from a vital supply of new product.

Under the new deal, Western Digital will get an extension to its existing joint venture with Toshiba and will resume sharing the bill for equipment used in the Japanese production plants. WD will also contribute to and gain output from the new Fab 6 production facility from the second half of next year.

Westen Digital Demonstrates 1TB SDXC Card

Photokina is the world's leading trade fair for photo and video professionals. This year Western Digital gave the photography and videography industry a preview of future imaging technology when it unveiled its SanDisk 1TB SDXC card prototype.

CES 2016: SanDisk announces world's thinnest 1TB M.2 SSD.

At the International CES Show in Las Vegas, SanDisk have announced the availability of the new X400 SSD, the world’s thinnest one terabyte (1TB) M.2 solid state drive (SSD). It is the first single-sided 1TB SATA M.2 form factor with a mere 1.5mm height. The X400 SSD is designed for fast start-up and application launch, as well as for extended battery life. Consumer research conducted by SanDisk in late 2015 indicates that these benefits are important for more than 70% of consumers when using PCs.

“Consumers have spoken. They want to work faster, with fewer interruptions. CES 2016

CES, the world’s largest technology trade show, kicks off officially in Las Vegas with the press day today, Tues 5th January. Our Managing Director, Rob Baseley, and Senior Product Manager, Paul Dutton are both at the event. In 2015 more than 170,000 people traveled from all over the globe to walk the 2.2 million net square feet of exhibition space. This year will no doubt be bigger and even better than before, but what will be the buzz of the show this year? Here’s five to look out for.

Wearables. We’re expecting the Wearables market to show real signs of maturity this year. Moving from gadgets that are fashionable and fun, to must have devices that do more. Expect to see more useful dietary feedback, sleep-tracking (as per our Lifetrak range), life-coaching and stress management.

Virtual Reality. There are expected to be 80% more VR exhibitors this year at CES than last year. Mark Zuckerberg called Virtual Reality (VR) the next evolution of computing. Expect more from Occulus, Sony’s Playstation VR and a big announcement from HTC. The show will also enjoy its first ever augmented reality showcase.

Drones. Each year Drone technology seems to take a huge leap forward. Look out for autonomous drones and VR and Action Cam brands getting involved too. GoPros teaser trailer for their new Karma device hints at a 360 degree camera.

Internet of Things. The IoT has been a buzzword for a couple of years now. It basically means connecting devices over the internet – letting separate devices communicate with each other to give us more features and benefits. New TVs from Samsung and LG will work more like home hubs, delivering control over everything from your lighting, to your heating and speaker systems.

Rideables and Driveables. Although attendees are officially banned from using them, and they’re pretty much illegal to use anywhere that’s useful, there’s no escaping the rise of the self-balancing scooter. Segway, Arcimoto and inboard will all be showcasing their latest models. We’re also expecting to see more Cars than ever before as Tesla rival Faraday unveil their new car concept car and what about BMW’s AirTouch gesture control system? All will be revealed.

Western Digital Announces Acquisition of SanDisk

We received a letter this morning from Sanjay Mehrotra, the President and CEO of our leading supply partner SanDisk Corporation. In the letter Mr Mehrotra informed us of that SanDisk have entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Western Digital. A copy of the full press release is available on SanDisk.com

Mr Mehrotra writes, "Joining forces with Western Digital builds on our 27-year legacy of innovative leadership in flash storage to create an even stronger partner for you, our customer. As you probably know, Western Digital is well known for developing and manufacturing cutting-edge storage solutions. Together, we will offer the industry’s most complete storage solutions portfolio across both HDD and flash solutions, enabling us to continue to meet your rapidly evolving storage needs. Additionally, as part of a larger company, we will have an even greater ability to develop and deliver the breakthrough technologies and solutions that you have come to expect from us."

This announcement is the start of many steps in the acquisition process. The transaction is expected to be completed towards the end of 2016, until when the two companies will continue to operate as separate companies. Until then we have been told to consider it, "business as usual". We will continue to update you on changes as they happen. SanDisk Announces 200GB microSD card at MWC

Today at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, SanDisk has announced the 200GB SanDisk Ultra® microSDXC™ UHS-I card, Premium Edition, the world’s highest capacity microSD card for use in mobile devices. SanDisk has apparently achieved this capacity breakthrough by leveraging the proprietary technology developed last year for the 128GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC card, and creating a new design and production process that allows for more bits per die. “We continue to push technology boundaries to deliver record-breaking solutions that transform the way consumers use their mobile devices,” said Dinesh Bahal, vice president, product marketing, SanDisk.

CES: Sony introduces new 4K Action Cam

For our friends at Sony, CES 2015 seems to be all about Hi-Res. Last night at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas they announced everything from a new 4K Ultra HD TV line (with Android OS support and Playstation Now) to a new Hi-Res Audio Walkman. Most excitingly there were also two new HD Action Cam announcements.

Sony Action Cam FDR-X1000 The new Sony 4K Action Cam delivers Sony’s vast expertise in 4K video production in a compact, splash-proof POV camera design, allowing adventurers to capture stunning 4K content with ease, which can be played back on a compatible 4K TV directly from the camera through HDMI. It also features enhanced HD video performance with upgraded stabilization, image quality and high-frame rate shooting. The FDR-X1000V features a ZEISS Tessar lens with an ultra-wide angle 170 degree field of view, a back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor and an acclaimed BIONZ X processor, ensuring that video quality remains consistently strong across all shooting environments. The versatile new X1000V camera features an updated version of Action Cam’s leading SteadyShot™ stabilization technology, adding electronic image stabilization that is approximately 3 times more effective at suppressing high-frequency motor vibration. This allows users to capture clear, vibration-free aerial footage using “drones” and enhances action footage of fast-moving subjects.

SanDisk Unleashes the World's Largest SD Card

SanDisk have announced the World's Highest Capacity SD Card for photographers and videographers: the 512GB SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC Card. The card is being marketed toward professional photo and particularly professional video and film makers shooting 4K. The card features write speeds of up to 90MB/s and transfer speeds of up to 95MB/s. We'll keep you updated on price and availability.

Sony announce new Action Cam Mini

Sony have announced the new Action Cam Mini HDR-AZ1R. It's approx. 2/3 the size of the current AS100VR, but seems to share a lot of the same spec. Sony have achieved the reduction in size by embedding the GPS unit in the new Live-View Remote RM-LVR2V. That means more shooting fun with smaller cam dimensions, lighter weight, and a splash proof body, plus the same sensational image and sound of the Action Cam lineup. The new Live-View Remote RM-LVR2V can control remote playback (without sound) and delete recorded movie footage. It also supports GPS logging, enhanced brightness of the monitor screen, with a longer strap for more live-view remote uses. No word on price and availability. We'll keep you up to date right here.

Skating Legend Joins Team Action Cam

A Ewe-nique View of the Tour de France!

In a stroke of marketing genius, our friends at Sony have come up with the ultimate Tour de France publicity stunt… A totally ewe-nique view of the action if you will! They’ve recruited a flock of sheep to capture the Yorkshire leg of the Tour de France using a modified dog harness and the stunning new Action Cam AS100VR!

Five sheep from Harewell Hall in Harrogate have been recruited by Sony and converted into sheepcams. The sheep are fitted with the wearable full HD AS100VR ActionCam which has Advance SteadyShot image stabilisation that smoothes camera wobbles, offering more stable and blur-free images whilst the sheep are on the move.! The camera is fitted securely and safely to the sheep using an adapted dog harness mount accessory for the best quality picture. It is one of many Action Cam specific accessories that let the user capture every adventure – even that of your pet.

Local Harrogate Farmer Ian Hammond can control the visuals of five sheepcams at the same time remotely through the use of the live view remote and if the rain should pour on Sunday, it won’t affect the footage as all the cameras are splash proof plus come with a waterproof case. The ultimate POV Action Cam test

Over at CreativeCOW.net, Grammy award winning musician and film maker, Douglas Spotted Eagle put 11 of the latest POV Action Cams to the test. The Sony Action Cam AS100 took the prize in many of the different tests including Image Quality, WiFi, Audio, Slow Mo and Pro Codec. In spite of stiff competition from Go-Pro, Drift and Garmin, the Sony Action Cam AS100 was rated as the best overall product. Special mention has to go to Douglas' supreme invention, "Frankenlens". It certainly beats my idea for a rabbit powered lawn mower. Check out the article here.

Apres Ski 2014

On Friday 9th, May Sub Zero Events took over the Coronet London for the UKs BIGGEST END OF SEASON SKI PARTY! We were there all night with the fantastic new Sony AS-100VR Action Cam and our Snowboard Simulator. Everyone that rode the sim, took home a pair of our Sony Action Cam shades, but there was only one winner - Simon Jones with a time of 273 seconds was that man! Excellent work fella.

SanDisk Memory Card spends three years at the bottom of a lake - and survives!

This week a Lake Tahoe fisherman reeled in an unusual catch - a Canon digital camera! Inside the camera was a SanDisk Ultra memory card with over 1000 pictures on it - still perfectly intact. We thinks that's pretty impressive when you consider it had spent the last three years of it's life at depths of up to 200 feet underwater. The fisherman took to Facebook and managed to get in touch with the cameras owner who had lost it while sailing.

Maxell Soundbar gets five stars from T3

Check out the January issue of the highly regarded lifestyle magazine T3 for a fantastic Home Cinema Sound group test. In the feature, our Maxell MXSP-SB3000 soundbar is awarded five stars and awarded the overall winner of the group test, beating rivals from Samsung and Onkyo. The review is more than a little positive and draws particular attention to the soundbar's versatile ARC compliant HDMI, aptX Bluetooth and twin audio inputs. T3 also like the 100W wireless subwoofer and stereo 30W speakers and sums up by calling the soundbar a "corker" and a "genuine bargain". We think it's pretty awesome too! Revised Friday opening hours

Friday afternoon has always been a very quiet time for us in distribution. We've loaded all the orders onto the system, the warehouse team have picked them and packed them and the couriers have collected. So we've decided to close slightly earlier. We'll still be open 9AM to 5.30PM Monday to Thursday, but on a Friday afternoon we're now going to close half an hour earlier at 5.00PM.

SanDisk and The Coldest Journey

SanDisk is a Technology Provider to the Coldest Journey's world record attempt to cross Antarctica in its polar winter for the first time. The Coldest Journey are using SDHC cards from SanDisk to record stills and video on the 9 month expedition, plus exclusively using SanDisk Extreme SSDs to store and back-up all the video and photos from the coldest place on earth. UPDATED: The snow has finally reached the south coast, with heavy snowfall over night which has continued through the morning. Our local DHL office is closed, and other couriers have also confirmed that they will not be making any collections or deliveries. With heavier snow forecasted locally within the next two hours, a decision has been taken to close the office at 1PM to allow staff to get home as safely as possible.

CES UPDATE: New iPhone 5 Sports Housing from Optrix

Optrix XD have announced the XD5 iPhone 5 sports case at CES in Las Vegas today: This totally redesigned case is leaner, lighter, and stronger, all with an even higher waterproof rating. If that wasn't enough Optrix have also added a second door for access to the charging connector, headphone jack and microphone. The XD5 has been drop tested from 15 feet and is submersible to 15 feet. A new rail mounting system means the XD5 gives you two products in one. Slide the XD5 housing into the rail system to mount to just about anything. Slide it out and you have an ultra rugged iPhone 5 case that is ready for any adventure. Today at the Consumer Electronics Show CES, Las Vegas, SanDisk have announced two new SSD products – the SanDisk Ultra Plus SSD for the retail channel and the SanDisk X110 SSD for OEM customers. The SanDisk Ultra Plus SSD is ideal for consumers who want to boost their notebook or desktop computer’s boot, shutdown, data-transfer and application launch times. The low latency of the SATA 3.0 drive allows it to respond quickly, even with a heavy workload, and its consistently high read speed is ideal for read-intensive applications such as multimedia consumption. The drive delivers up to 530MB/sec sequential read and up to 445MB/sec sequential write speeds1, offering a fast, responsive computing experience. In addition, with no moving parts, the SSD is more durable than traditional hard disk drives and it consumes less power to help maximize battery life.

The SanDisk X110 SSD enables notebook and tablet OEM manufacturers to design fast, responsive systems with the sleek, thin form factors consumers’ desire. The X110, successor to SanDisk’s popular X100 SSD, delivers fast sequential and random read/write speeds and employs a low power architecture that significantly reduces the power consumed by the device in low power modes.

Inventor of barcode dies aged 91

Norman Joseph Woodland, co-creator of the modern barcode, has died at his home in New Jersey at the age of 91. In the 1940s, Woodland worked with his University classmate Bernard Silver to create the iconic thick and thin barcode line system. The patent for the system was later sold for a mere $15,000 (£9,300). Today devices like our Socket Mobile range of Data Collection products use Woodland's invention to collect data from more than five billion barcodes each and every day. In 2011 both Woodland and Silver were inducted into the US's National Inventors Hall of Fame.

Socket Mobile Adds Apple iPhone 5 Support to Cordless Hand Scanner.

Socket Mobile have announced iPhone 5 support for the Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) line of portable barcode scanners. The CHS is a pocket-sized barcode scanner that enables ultrafast, untethered data collection in applications such as retail point of sale, asset tracking, inventory management and field service. Socket Mobile has updated the SocketScan 10 Software Development Kit (SDK) to take full advantage of the new A6 processor and taller screen of the iPhone 5. The ScannerSettings and SocketPad utilities for the CHS have also been updated on the Apple App Store with iPhone 5 and iPad mini support.

The 2000-mile journey across the continent has for many years been considered too perilous to try and the expedition's six-man "Ice Team" - led by Sir Ranulph Fiennes - will have to overcome one of earth's most hostile environments if they are to succeed, exposing themselves to temperatures dropping close to -90c and operating in near permanent darkness.

Powertraveller has provided Sir Ranulph Fiennes and his team with a suite of powergorillas, giving them the back up power they will need to power all their gear; from heated suits, to GPS and sat phones to their radio transceiver. Powertraveller has developed new cables and connectors especially for the expedition to make sure that everything is as efficient and simple as possible. The team will be taking 6 Powergorillas with them and a hand crank, ensuring that they can keep everything powered throughout the trip.

SanDisk Announces Development of CFast 2.0 Memory Cards

At the Photokina Exhibition in Cologne today, SanDisk have announced a new technology that will deliver up to four times faster performance than the current CompactFlash memory cards used in many of today's professional-grade cameras. SanDisk is currently sampling the new CFast2.0 memory card technology to camera manufacturers as they design and optimise their next-generation host devices for the new specification. Celebrating 25 Years in Flash Technology

Since 1994, Peak Development has worked closely with SanDisk Corporation, the global pioneer of flash memory. On the 25th Anniversary of the invention of flash memory, SanDisk President Sanjay Mehrotra has today issued the following statement.

SanDisk announce aquisition of Enterprise Software Specialist

SanDisk have announced the acquisition of Schooner Information Technology, Inc., an enterprise software company located in Silicon Valley that develops flash-optimised database and data store solutions. Schooner’s products complement SanDisk’s growing portfolio of enterprise solid state disk (SSD) and flash-optimised software offerings that enable customers to accelerate the performance of data-intensive applications and reduce overall cost of ownership. Schooner’s team of database and flash optimisation experts have joined SanDisk’s Enterprise Storage Solutions (ESS) team.

Powertraveller Case Study

powergorilla Performed very well in extremes of temperature, even down to -12 degrees! The product performed excellently and the multi-variable output voltage was a great feature, as was the ability to charge via the USB. We used one [powergorilla] to power the laptop and another to power the BGAN satellite uplink - both gave ample power and outstanding operational times. Using the two powegorillas together gave us enough power flexibility to go "live" from anywhere.

powermonkey extreme Brilliant and the perfect size to power our iPads, as well as recharging BlackBerrys and iPhones. It gave outstanding performance every time, with a very long life, nice clear display and the tough on/off feature was excellent. The solar charger also performed well and certainly better than rival products under the same environmental constraints. A great product that just kept on giving power, I don't think we actually ever managed to drain it! Perfect for any use away from mains power and a great, handy size.

powermonkey explorer A perfect little pebble-sized power pack which survived some very tough environmental and handling conditions - and once again we never actually managed to drain it in use! So many uses, both as a conventional power booster, and as a (very) handy back-up, it takes up so little space, it was just perfect pocket sized.

solarmonkey & solarnut We simply left the solarmonkey hanging all day in the sunshine and it was fully charged. Tied to a backpack whilst walking, it was always trickle-charging (even in very low light, snow conditions), unobtrusive, but always boosting power.

lightmonkey The compact size of this powerful device is very deceptive. Power it up (via an explorer) and you immediately have a powerful head torch, so bright in fact that we even used the supplied stretch hanger and it illuminated the entire tent! Very flexible in use with the supplied stretch cord, so wear it, hang it, dangle it, do whatever, but it is seriously bright! Amazingly powerful and belies its tiny size."

The new Game Changer is here

SanDisk develops world's smallest 128Gb NAND Flash Memory Chip

One for the technically minded: SanDisk today announced it has developed the world's smallest 128 gigabit (Gb) NAND flash memory chip currently in production. The semiconductor device can store 128 billion individual bits of information on a single silicon die 170mm squared - an area smaller than that covered by a U.S. penny. SanDisk built the 128Gb NAND flash memory chip on the company's industry-leading 19 nanometer (nm) process technology. A nanometer measures one-billionth of a meter, meaning that 19nm circuit lines are so small that about 3,000 of them could fit across the width of a human hair. The chip also employs SanDisk's three-bit per cell (X3) technology that allows the company to build NAND flash memory products with the ability to read and write three bits of information in each memory cell. The use of NAND flash memory in high tech equipment like SmartPhones, Tablets and Solid State Drives (SSDs) allows advances in the full function, small form factor devices that are highly valued by consumers. Shrinking the size of NAND flash memory allows smaller, more powerful computing, communications and consumer electronics devices to be built while keeping costs low.

Low Cost Barcode Scanner for Apple Devices

Socket Mobile have today announced the upcoming availability of the Socket Mobile Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) 7Ci, a low-cost barcode scanner for the Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Nikon D800 officially announced

For studio and landscape photographers that value resolution over speed, the newly anounced Nikon D800 and D800E make a very attractive proposition. One thing is for sure, with an astonishing 36.3MP sensor generating a 76.5MB NEF file and support for Full 1080p HD Video, this cameras output is going to need a substantial memory card. With both a SecureDigital and CompactFlash card slot, the D800 supports both UHS-1 (for SD/SDHC and SDXC) and UDMA (for CF) standards, making choosing the right memory card essential.

SANDISK EXTREME PRO SDHC. Available in capacities up to 64GB, this UHS-1 compatible, 95MB/s WRITE speed card raises the bar for speed and performance. If shooting continous bursts is important, this is the ultimate SecureDigital card for the D800.

SANDISK EXTREME SDHC / SDXC. Later this month, this UHS-1 compatible 45MB/s WRITE Speed card will be available in a 128GB capacity. If shooting a large number of images on a single card is important, choose this card.

SanDisk XQD Response

Those browsing the specification of the new Nikon D4 DSLR will have noticed that it has dual card slots - CompactFlash AND XQD. So what is an XQD Card? It's bigger than an SD Card, but smaller than CompactFlash and although SanDisk were involved in the development of the XQD Card, they have currently decided not to put a SanDisk branded XQD Card into production. SanDisk cite the established dominance of the CompactFlash card (which the D4 is also compatible with) and the already impressive performance available from the SanDisk Extreme PRO card range as their reasons for not developing the card further. "SanDisk, Sony, and Nikon announced in late 2010 a proposal to standardise a new format within the CompactFlash Association (CFA) as an option for higher performance media for professional imaging/video applications. The CompactFlash Association recently announced that the XQD specification has been adopted as a CFA standard. SanDisk participates in many standards bodies and has contributed to a variety of new standards that allow for options in the marketplace. At this time, SanDisk has chosen not to productize the XQD format."

1 in 5 Pageviews is Facebook

Some fascinating facts have been creeping out of the Facebook filing cabinet this week including the amazing statistic that (in the US at least) Facebook.com is responsible for 1 in every 5 pageviews. It doesn't stop there. The site is currently seeing 845 million users every month, half of whom are mobile users. And as for Mr. Zuck? He still owns 28 percent of the company which is expected to be valued at between $75 and $100 billion dollars. Facebook now stores over 100 Petabytes of photos and videos uplodaed by over 845 million users. To put that in perspective, thats 100 million Gigabytes or if you like 100 qaudrillion bytes.

New products from Transcend

Transcend have anounced several new products including a new 32GB MicroSDHC Class 10 Card a new High Speed USB Flash Drive and tbeir first SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Card. Transcend have also anounced the phased introduction of eco-friendly packaging into their CF133 products which will shortly feature paperboard style packaging rather than the current clear blister packs.

TRANSCEND 32GB MICROSDHC CLASS 10. This new high capacity addition to the curent range is ideal for 1080p HD Video recording as well as high megapixel photography. These cards can also be used in powerful smartphones and tablets to increase their overall storage capacity and reduce delays when accessing data on the card.

TRANSCEND JF780 USB 3.0 FLASH DRIVE. This extremely fast USB 3.0 flash drive offers read speeds of up to 140MB/s and write speeds of up to 40MB/s (16GB). Even when used in a USB 2.0 slot, this new drive will still deliver impressive read/write speeds of up to 32MB/s. The drive utilises the latest DDR MLC Flash to make it one of the fasted drives currently on the market.

TRANSCEND SDHC CLASS 10 UHS-1. This new High Speed card will work in any SDHC or SDXC device but will offer faster performance when used with devices that support the new UHS-1 standard - such as the Nikon D5100, D7000 and Sony A77 cameras. It's a great card for performance photography and with read speeds of up to 85MB/s and write speeds of up to 45MB/s it is up to 4x faster than the existing Transcend SDHC Class 10 Card.

2012 International CES

SWPP Convention 2012

There are just days to go until the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographer's (SWPP) convention at the Novotel London West, Hammersmith. The SWPP is the fastest growing worldwide association for professional photographers and the annnual convention is always a great way to meet both professional photographers and the photographic trade. The seminar part of the event runs from Tuesday the 10th through to Monday the 16th of January. There are also three days of Trade Shows from Friday the 13th through to Sunday the 15th of January, culmating in the Societies Awards Dinner on the Sunday Evening. Stuart Humphery, from Peak's marketing team will be attending the show on the Sunday and staying into the evening for the Societies Awards Dinner. 5MB in 1956

These days if you set your DSLR to RAW you probably won't get much change out of a 5MB file. That's fine in 2012 when you're using a SanDisk Extreme PRO 128GB CF Card. In 1956 however, 5MB looked a little bit different. This picture shows a 5MB IBM 305 RAMAC Hard Disk drive being unloaded from a plane. It weighted nearly a ton, required a forklift truck to move it and was comprised of 50 seperate 24-inch discs that occupied some 16 square feet . The annual cost of using it was a snip at $35,000. The Big Five Join Forces

In a press release on their website, SanDisk have today anounced that they have reached "an agreement in principle" to join forces with Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba to work on a new content protection technology for flash memory cards under the Next Generation Secure Memory Initiative. The five companies will now start preparing for licensing and promotion of HD cpabable security for SD Cards and Embedded Memory for use in advanced consumer applications such as SmartPhones and Tablets.

The five companies believe this new technology will enable various HD content applications such as HD network download, broadcast content to go and HD Digital Copy/Managed Copy from Blu-ray Disc. The five companies believe that they each can make substantial contributions that, when combined, will enable them to start licensing the new secure memory technology early next year. The five companies expect to see adoption of flash memory products and various embedded flash memory solutions using this technology in the market during 2012.

International shipments (depending on region) will be several days earlier on Monday the 19th December. There will be no collections on Friday 23rd Decembers, orders taken on this date will not be shipped until we re-open on Tuesday 3rd January.

On Friday the 30th of September at the Pixel Trade Awards, Stephen Hockney (UK Sales Manager) and Mark Pini (Snr. Buona Fortuna Robert Baseley!

Peak Development Managing Director, Robert Baseley will commence a continental charity bike ride for Cancer Research UK on the 15th June 2011. The route covers 950 miles of tough terrain over 12 days (an average of 80 miles per day). The Italian event will be started in Lugano, Switzerland by the eminent Professor Peter Johnson from Cancer Research UK and will finish in Catania, Sicily.

SanDisk announces SDHC Card featuring UHS-1 Technology

SanDisk has today announced the imminent arrival of the SanDisk Extreme® Pro™ SDHC™ UHS-I card. The card features Ultra High Speed (UHS) technology from the newly released SD 3.0 specification and can deliver read and write speeds of up to 45MB/sec when used in UHS-enabled cameras such as the Nikon D7000.

CES: SanDisk announces encryption and backup for USB Drives

At the Consumer Electronics Show, Las Vegas, SanDisk have announced that it will offer encryption and online backup features across its entire retail USB portfolio. SanDisk SecureAccess software protects files against unauthorised access by creating an encrypted, password-protected folder or "vault" on the USB drive. The software also includes up to 2 gigabytes of secure online backup storage offered by Dmailer.

"Business travelers lose more than 12,000 laptops each week in U.S. airports, and more than half of those laptops contain confidential or sensitive information*," said Kent Perry, director, product marketing, SanDisk. "Data security has become an absolute necessity, and SanDisk USB drives with SecureAccess software offer an easy to use vault protected by AES encryption." Deliveries currently affected by bad weather

DPD DELIVERIES TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED IN SCOTLAND, NEWCASTLE and YORK.

DPD is unable to guarantee that parcels sent to Scotland, Newcastle and York will be delivered before Christmas. In addition they have a significant backlog of parcels in their depots still awaiting delivery.

With the bad weather expected to continue in the north of the country and a new cold spell likely to affect other parts of the country, we strongly advise customers to expect disruption to their Christmas orders.

Bad Weather

The recent bad weather has severely impacted parcel delivery services in northern parts of the UK. Our primary UK courier, DPD has stated that they are already unable to guarantee pre-Christmas deliveries in areas such as Scotland, Newcastle and York. With more snow anticipated, please be aware of the continued disruption this may cause to courier services.

Christmas Deliveries

The last collection date for guaranteed pre-Christmas delivery (to unaffected parts of the UK) will be Wednesday the 22nd December. If you do need to place an order for pre-Christmas delivery on Thursday the 23rd December, we recommend using a pre 12 delivery. There will be no collections on Friday the 24th December. Normal service will resume when we re-open on Tuesday 4th January.

Peak win at Pixel Trade Awards

On Friday the 22nd of October at the Pixel Trade Awards 2010, Peak Development was awarded with the title of Film Media Manufacturer / Supplier of the Year - for our work with SanDisk, the world leader in Flash Memory. This is the second time Peak have been recognised with the award.

The Gala Awards evening was held at the Marriott Hotel on Grosvenor Square in London’s Mayfair and are the only photographic and imaging trade awards of their kind. Peak’s award was presented to Managing Director Robert Baseley by legendary footballer Sir Geoff Hurst MBE. Sir Geoff made his mark in World Cup history as the only player to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup final.

Western Digital Corp. SoMo Back Pack enables anytime, anywhere data connectivity

Socket Mobile today announced availability of its SoMo 650 Back Pack Broadband ExpressCard Adapter. The Back Pack snaps onto the back of a SoMo 650 handheld computer and provides the necessary interface for using a broadband network ExpressCard to transfer data directly to and from the SoMo 650 handheld computer over a broadband network.

The Back Pack is designed to be ergonomic, lightweight and durable, while providing the flexibility for the customer to choose the optimal ExpressCard Wide Area Network (WAN) modem card for their specific broadband network requirements. In addition, the Back Pack is compatible with and operates in conjunction with other SoMo accessories like the plug-in data collection and communication peripherals, the hand strap and the standard and tethered stylus.

New Socket Bluetooth Barcode Scanner for Healthcare Industry

Socket Mobile, Inc. today announced that it has launched new antimicrobial versions of its popular Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) Series 7 for use by mobile workers in healthcare environments.

The winner of SanDisk's Spot the Bike competition was this week presented with his prize - a Ducati 1098 SuperBike. The prize was presented to winner Neill Murgh by SanDisk's Senior Product Marketing Manager Gerry Edwards at the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. U111M - Special Development Project

We are currently developing a new USB Interface PCMCIA Card Reader for 16bit ATA Flash Cards that will enable use of PCMCIA Flash Cards in any computer equiped with a spare USB socket. Similar in design to the existing Elan U111 / U142 but not limited to 3G Data Cards, the U111-M will enable mobile laptop users to transfer data to / from PCMCIA cards in the field without the need to return to the office to use a desk-top PC.

SDXC (eXtended Capacity)

Today at CES The SD Card Association anounced the next generation of SD Card - SDXC (eXtended Capacity). SDXC capacity will range from 64GB to a potentially massive 2TB (that's >2,000 gigabytes). A 2TB SDXC memory card could store an estimated 100 HD movies or 480 hours of HD recording or 136,000 fine-grade photos.

The faster bus speeds in the SDXC specification also will benefit SDHC, Embedded SD and SDIO specifications, increasing SD interface read/write speeds up to 104MB/s in 2009 with a road map to 300MB/s.

The SDXC specification uses Microsoft’s exFAT file system to support its large capacity and interoperability in a broad range of PCs, consumer electronics and mobile phones. The exFAT system was designed for increased compatibility with flash media, from portability of data to interoperability with multiple platforms and devices on removable media.

The first SDXC cards manufactured are likely to provide 64GB storage, doubling the 32GB maximum in SDHC memory cards. Even at early capacity levels, the SDXC card will improve user experience in products like cameras and camcorders. First products are expected to be available in late 2009 / early 2010.
